Gary Shteyngart, author of The Russian Debutante's Handbook (2003), Absurdistan (2006), and Super Sad True Love Story (2010), discusses how he dealt with emigrating from Leningrad at age seven and being plunged into a completely foreign world; explains why he told fellow students he was born in East Germany; and tells how he made friends by writing his own version of the Torah in Hebrew school.
